At Churachandpur (Manipur) – a district with a majority tribal (Kuki-Zo) population – the Prime Minister laid foundation stones for multiple upcoming projects valued at over ₹7,300 crore. These initiatives cover urban infrastructure, technology, education, health and sports, all intended to spur growth in rural and tribal areas. Mr. Modi said that development would bring transformation to Churachandpur “and that’s the reason we are here today.” He reiterated the message that peace is essential, and that the people of Manipur must turn to progress and not violence.
Major schemes whose foundations were laid include:
Manipur Urban Roads, Drainage & Asset Management Project (≈₹3,647 crore): Comprehensive city drainage systems and road improvements across Imphal and other urban centers, aimed at flood control and efficient city management.
Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) Project (≈₹550 crore): An IT/BT park and skill development centre to nurture the local tech industry and startups.
Working Women’s Hostels (₹142 crore): Nine new hostels providing safe accommodation for female students and workers, supporting women’s education and entrepreneurship.
Healthcare Expansion (₹105 crore): Super‑specialty hospital facilities and medical equipment in regional centers, to bring advanced healthcare to remote districts.
Education (₹134 crore): Upgrading 120 schools across 16 districts (through new buildings and labs), boosting quality of education in rural areas.
Tourism & Rural Connectivity (₹102 crore): Improvements to heritage sites and rural roads, linking remote villages and promoting local tourism circuits.
Sports Infrastructure (₹36 crore): A new indoor stadium at Khuman Lampak (Imphal) to encourage sports and youth activities.
National Highway Upgrade (₹502 crore): Four‑laning and safety works on NH-102A (the Imphal–Chandel–Tengnoupal section) to improve interstate road connectivity.
Together these projects target grassroots development – from schools and hospitals to roads and digital infrastructure. Officials noted that a large share of funds goes to tribal districts, in line with the Centre’s pledge to “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.” The schemes are expected to create rural jobs (in construction and services) and bring basic amenities to villages. The Prime Minister also announced additional houses for internally displaced families, underlining the government’s broader welfare efforts. By focussing on social infrastructure and empowerment (women’s hostels, skill parks), the initiative aims to increase the pace of overall development in Manipur’s hill regions.
